Sumonto Chowdhury
Born in 1979 in Murshidabad, West Bengal, Sumonto Chowdhury developed an early interest in the visual arts. He pursued his formal training at Kala Bhavana, Santiniketan, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting in 2004, graduating with distinction.
Soon after, he relocated to Hyderabad to continue his artistic education. In 2006, he completed his Master of Fine Arts in Printmaking at the Sarojini Naidu School of Arts and Communication, University of Hyderabad. Following his studies, he gained valuable experience working as an assistant to the renowned Indian artist Padma Shri K. Laxma Goud.
Chowdhury made his solo exhibition debut in 2008 at Space Art Gallery in Hyderabad. Over the years, he has presented a total of eight solo exhibitions, primarily in Hyderabad and Chennai, between 2008 and 2017. His work has also been featured in numerous group exhibitions held across major Indian cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Goa, and Gwalior.
His artistic contributions have been recognized with several awards, including the National Award (Junior Category) from the South Zone Cultural Centre, Nagpur, and the Emerging Artist Award from the Prafulla Dahanukar Art Foundation, both received in 2015. Earlier, in 2006, he was also honored by the Aranya Art Foundation.
